Texas Trash Dip is a hot, creamy, cheesy Tex-Mex party dip made with refried beans, cream cheese, sour cream, taco seasoning, and green chiles, then baked to bubbling perfection. Ideal for game days, gatherings, or potlucks.

  • 1 (8-oz.) package cream cheese
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 2 (15-oz.) cans refried beans
  • 1 (4.5-oz.) can chopped green chiles, drained
  • 1 (1-oz.) packet taco seasoning (about 3 tbsp)
  • 1/2 tsp kosher salt
  • 1/4 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/4 tsp chili powder
  • 1/4 tsp onion powder
  • 1/8 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1 (16-oz.) package shredded Mexican blend cheese (about 4 cups), divided
  • 1/4 cup thinly sliced scallions
  • Tortilla chips, for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Lightly coat a 13×9-inch baking dish with cooking spray.
  2. In a microwave-safe bowl, combine cream cheese and sour cream. Microwave on HIGH for 1 minute and 30 seconds until softened. Whisk until smooth.
  3. Stir in refried beans, green chiles, taco seasoning, salt, smoked paprika, chili powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, and 2 cups of shredded cheese until fully combined.
  4. Spread the mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish. Top with the remaining 2 cups of shredded cheese.
  5. Bake for 25 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  6. Remove from oven, top with sliced scallions, and serve hot with tortilla chips.

Notes

  • Can be prepared up to 2 days ahead and refrigerated before baking.
  • Freezer-friendly for up to 3 months when stored in an airtight container.
  • Customize by adding ground beef, chorizo, or black beans.
