Crispy stuffed cheese balls with a golden breadcrumb coating and a gooey, melty cheese center. A crowd-favorite appetizer that’s easy to make and perfect for parties or game day.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 oz mozzarella cheese, cut into small cubes
  • 1 cup mashed potatoes or prepared stuffing
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 1/2 cups breadcrumbs or panko breadcrumbs
  • Vegetable or canola oil, for frying

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix mashed potatoes or stuffing with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  2. Wrap a small portion of the mixture around each cheese cube, sealing completely and shaping into a ball.
  3. Set up a breading station with flour, beaten eggs, and breadcrumbs.
  4. Roll each cheese ball in flour, dip into egg, then coat evenly with breadcrumbs.
  5. Chill the breaded cheese balls for 20–30 minutes.
  6. Heat oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C).
  7. Fry cheese balls in batches until golden and crisp, turning as needed.
  8. Remove and drain on a wire rack or paper towels.
  9. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • Chilling before frying helps prevent cheese from leaking.
  • Mozzarella melts best, but Monterey Jack also works well.
  • Bake or air fry for a lighter option.
  • Best served immediately while hot and crispy.
