Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar (for topping)
  • 1 tbsp all-purpose flour (for topping)
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1/8 tsp peppermint extract (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease a 9×13” pan.
  2. In a large bowl, mix melted butter, sugar, and cocoa powder until smooth.
  3. Add vanilla and eggs, one at a time, mixing well.
  4. Stir in flour, baking powder, and salt until just combined.
  5. Pour batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
  6. In a separate bowl, mix cream cheese, sugar, flour, egg yolk, and optional peppermint extract until smooth.
  7. Transfer the cream cheese mixture into a piping bag and pipe concentric circles on top of the brownie batter.
  8. Drag a knife from the center outward at intervals to create a spider web pattern.
  9. Bake for 30–35 minutes, until the edges pull away from the pan.
  10. Let cool completely before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • Use room temperature cream cheese to avoid lumps in the topping.
  • For cleaner web designs, wipe the knife between each drag.
  • Add edible decorations like chocolate spiders or Halloween sprinkles for extra flair.
  • Brownies can be made 2 days ahead and stored in an airtight container.
  • These freeze well for up to 2 months.
