Classic Parker House Rolls are soft, buttery dinner rolls known for their signature folded shape and golden-brown crust. Perfect for holidays, sliders, or everyday meals, this recipe uses just six basic ingredients and delivers bakery-style flavor right from your kitchen.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1⅓ cups whole milk
  • 4½ teaspoons dry active yeast (2 packets)
  • 5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 tablespoon kosher salt
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted (for finishing)
  • 1 tablespoon sea salt or fleur de sel (for finishing, optional)

Instructions

  1. Warm half the milk to about 100°F and combine it with the yeast in the bowl of a stand mixer. Let sit for 10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add the remaining milk, flour, sugar, softened butter, and kosher salt. Mix using the paddle attachment on low speed until combined.
  3. Switch to the dough hook and knead on medium-low speed for 5–7 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
  4. Transfer the dough to a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm spot until doubled in size (about 1 hour).
  5. Turn dough out onto a clean surface and divide into 24 equal portions (approx. 47g each). Shape each into a round ball and let rest covered for 5–10 minutes.
  6. Flatten each ball into a ¼-inch oval. Brush one half with melted butter, then fold over like a taco. Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  7. Cover rolls loosely and let rise until puffy (about 40 minutes).
  8. Preheat oven to 375°F during the final rise. Bake for 15–20 minutes or until golden brown.
  9. Remove from oven and brush immediately with melted butter. Optionally, sprinkle with sea salt or fleur de sel.

Notes

  • Use a kitchen scale for consistent dough portions and best texture.
  • Don’t over-proof after shaping—folded rolls rise faster than rounds.
  • Can be frozen after baking or after shaping.
  • Reheat covered in foil at 300°F to retain softness.
  • Ideal for sliders, breakfast rolls, or Thanksgiving sides.
