Hot Chocolate on a Stick is a rich, creamy fudge-style chocolate treat that melts into warm milk to create a decadent hot chocolate drink. Perfect as a holiday gift or cozy winter treat, it’s customizable, easy to make, and fun for all ages.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 1/4 cups sweetened condensed milk (14-ounce can)
  • 3 cups semisweet chocolate (chopped chocolate bars or chips)
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened baking chocolate (4 ounces)
  • Wooden sticks, lollipop sticks, candy canes, or bamboo skewers
  • Optional toppings: crushed candy canes, marshmallows, cocoa powder

Instructions

  1. Line an 8×8-inch or 9×9-inch baking pan with foil and set aside.
  2. In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine the heavy cream and sweetened condensed milk. Heat over medium heat until steaming but not boiling, stirring occasionally.
  3. Remove the pan from heat and add all of the chocolate. Let it sit undisturbed for 10 minutes.
  4. Whisk the mixture vigorously until thick, smooth, and glossy.
  5. Optional: Stir in flavor extracts like vanilla, peppermint, or espresso powder.
  6. Spread the chocolate evenly into the prepared pan and let it cool at room temperature for 12 hours or overnight.
  7. Remove the fudge from the pan, peel off the foil, and cut into 16 equal cubes using a sharp, heated knife.
  8. Insert a stick into each chocolate cube and optionally roll in toppings like crushed candy canes or cocoa powder.
  9. Wrap each stick in plastic wrap or treat bags for gifting. Store at room temperature or refrigerate for longer shelf life.

Notes

  • Use sweetened condensed milk, not evaporated milk, to ensure proper setting.
  • Let the mixture cool slowly at room temperature for the best texture.
  • Homemade marshmallows enhance the flavor, but store-bought ones work too.
  • Refrigerate if storing for more than 2 weeks or if your kitchen is warm.
  • Flavor variations include orange, mocha, raspberry, and alcohol-infused versions.
