Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Optional melted butter for brushing
  • Optional honey butter or garlic butter

Instructions

  1. Combine warm water, warm milk, yeast, and 1 teaspoon sugar. Let stand until foamy.
  2. Add remaining sugar, softened butter, egg, and salt.
  3. Gradually mix in flour until soft dough forms.
  4. Knead dough for 8 to 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place dough in greased bowl, cover, and let rise until doubled, about 1 hour.
  6. Punch down dough and divide into 12 to 15 pieces.
  7. Shape into balls and place in greased baking pan.
  8. Cover and let rise 30 to 45 minutes until puffy.
  9. Bake at 375°F for 15 to 18 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Brush warm rolls with melted butter and serve.
