These creamy orange muffins combine the nostalgic flavor of orange creamsicles with a moist vanilla-infused base and a luscious cream cheese filling. Perfect for breakfast, snacks, or dessert, they’re made with real orange zest and juice for fresh, natural flavor.

  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp orange zest
  • 2 eggs, room temperature
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3 tbsp fresh orange juice
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp kosher salt
  • 1/2 cup sour cream, room temperature
  • 4 oz cream cheese, room temperature
  • 1 egg (for filling)
  • 2 tsp orange zest (for filling)
  • 1 tbsp fresh orange juice (for filling)
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar, sifted

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a muffin tin with paper liners.
  2. In a bowl, whisk cream cheese, 1 egg, orange zest, orange juice, and powdered sugar until smooth. Set aside.
  3. In another bowl, cream butter and sugar until pale and fluffy (3–5 minutes).
  4. Add orange zest and mix another minute. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well and beating 3 minutes more.
  5. Add vanilla and orange juice; mix until blended.
  6. In a separate bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, and salt.
  7. Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet, mixing on low until just combined.
  8. Fold in sour cream gently with a spatula.
  9. Fill muffin cups 2/3 full. Make a small well in each and spoon in 1 tbsp of orange cream filling.
  10. Swirl gently with a toothpick. Bake for 20 minutes until tops are golden and set.
  11. Cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack. Store in the fridge in an airtight container.

  • Use room temperature ingredients for best texture.
  • Do not overmix the batter once flour is added.
  • Try Cara Cara oranges for a sweeter flavor or blood oranges for color and tang.
  • These muffins freeze well—wrap individually for up to 3 months.
