  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3 Granny Smith apples (sliced)
  • 3 Pink Lady apples (sliced)
  • 1/4 cup sprinkles
  • 1/4 cup mini chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup mini pumpkin cookies (optional)
  • Assorted toppings (peanuts, M&Ms, marshmallows, peanut butter chips, walnuts, pretzels, crushed cookies)

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan over medium-high heat, combine white sugar, brown sugar, and water. Stir until the sugar dissolves and the mixture begins to bubble.
  2. Add butter and stir continuously while the mixture continues to bubble. Avoid letting it touch the sides of the pan to prevent crystallization.
  3. Cook while stirring until the mixture thickens and pulls away from the sides of the pan.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in heavy cream, vanilla extract, and salt. Let it cool slightly before serving.
  5. Slice apples into wedges and soak briefly in lemon water to prevent browning. Pat dry.
  6. Arrange apple slices on a large board or tray around a heat-safe bowl filled with warm caramel.
  7. Place toppings in small bowls or scatter creatively around the apples.
  8. Serve immediately with optional warmers for keeping caramel soft.
