Artisan grilled flatbreads are soft, chewy, and lightly charred homemade breads made with simple ingredients, perfect for serving with dips, wraps, or meals.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • Optional: fresh herbs (parsley or rosemary)
  • Optional: minced garlic
  • Optional: olive oil for brushing

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add flour, salt, and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place dough in an oiled bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled.
  5. Divide dough into portions and roll into flat shapes.
  6. Preheat grill to medium-high heat and lightly oil grates.
  7. Grill flatbreads for 2–3 minutes per side until lightly charred.
  8. Remove and brush with olive oil or add toppings if desired.
  9. Serve warm.

Notes

  • Use warm, not hot water to activate yeast properly.
  • Knead dough well for best texture.
  • Do not overcook to keep flatbreads soft.
  • Brush with olive oil for extra flavor.
  • Can be cooked on a skillet if no grill is available.
