Sour Cream Noodle Bake is a classic comfort food casserole made with tender egg noodles, savory ground beef, tangy sour cream, and rich tomato sauce, topped with melted cheese for the perfect creamy family dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 oz egg noodles
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 15 oz tomato sauce
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup cottage cheese
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar or mozzarella cheese
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Cook egg noodles in salted boiling water until al dente, about 6 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a large skillet, heat olive oil and cook ground beef over medium heat until browned. Add onion and garlic and cook until soft.
  4. Stir in tomato sauce, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5–10 minutes.
  5. In a large bowl, combine sour cream and cottage cheese. Mix until smooth.
  6. Toss cooked noodles with the sour cream mixture until evenly coated.
  7. Layer half of the noodle mixture in the prepared dish, then spread half of the meat sauce on top. Repeat the layers.
  8. Top with shredded cheese.
  9. Bake uncovered for 25–30 minutes or until cheese is melted and bubbly.
  10. Let rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Use full-fat sour cream for the richest flavor.
  • Substitute Greek yogurt for sour cream if preferred.
  • Ground turkey or chicken can be used instead of beef.
  • Make ahead: assemble and refrigerate up to 24 hours before baking.
  • Freeze unbaked casserole for up to 2 months; bake from frozen for 1 hour.
