Crispy, golden oven baked sweet potato fries made with simple ingredients, coated in savory spices, and baked to perfection for a healthy, satisfying snack or side dish.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 medium sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into 1/4″ x 3″ sticks
  • 2 tablespoons canola or olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika or chili powder (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch (optional, for crispiness)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 415°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or foil (spray foil lightly if used).
  2. Peel and cut sweet potatoes into evenly sized matchsticks (about 1/4 inch thick and 3 inches long).
  3. If extra crispy fries are desired, soak the cut fries in a large bowl of ice-cold water for 30 minutes. Drain and pat dry thoroughly.
  4. Place fries in a zip-top bag with cornstarch and shake to coat evenly.
  5. Drizzle fries with oil and toss to coat.
  6. Mix seasonings in a small bowl and sprinkle over fries.
  7. Spread fries in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet or on a wire rack over a sheet pan to allow hot air circulation.
  8. Bake for 15 minutes, flip the fries (if not using a rack), and bake for another 10–15 minutes until crispy and golden.
  9. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • Cut fries as evenly as possible for uniform baking.
  • Do not overcrowd the baking sheet—use two sheets if necessary.
  • For best results, use a metal rack over a baking sheet.
  • Cornstarch helps achieve extra crispiness but is optional.
  • Adjust seasoning blends for spicy, sweet, or herby variations.
