Kung Pao Shrimp Easy Recipe is a quick and flavorful Chinese-inspired stir-fry made with tender shrimp, crunchy peanuts, dried chilies, and a savory-spicy sauce that’s perfect for busy weeknights.

  • 1 lb large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 68 dried red chilies
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp fresh ginger, minced
  • 1/2 cup roasted peanuts
  • 1/2 cup bell peppers, diced
  • 2 green onions, sliced
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1/4 cup water

Instructions

  1. Pat the shrimp dry and toss with cornstarch until lightly coated.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, rice vinegar, hoisin sauce, sugar, and water. Set aside.
  3. Heat oil in a wok or large skillet over high heat.
  4. Add shrimp in a single layer and cook until just pink, then remove and set aside.
  5. Add dried chilies, garlic, and ginger to the pan and stir-fry briefly until fragrant.
  6. Add bell peppers and peanuts and stir-fry for 1–2 minutes.
  7. Return shrimp to the pan and pour in the sauce.
  8. Stir-fry until the sauce thickens and coats everything evenly.
  9. Remove from heat, garnish with green onions, and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Do not overcook the shrimp to keep them tender.
  • Adjust the number of dried chilies to control spice level.
  • Prepare all ingredients before cooking, as stir-frying moves quickly.
