This creamy and tangy homemade ranch dressing is made with simple ingredients like sour cream, mayonnaise, and herbs. It’s healthier and more flavorful than store-bought ranch, and perfect as a salad dressing or a dip.

Ingredients

Scale
  • ½ cup sour cream or plain Greek yogurt
  • ¼ to ½ cup mayonnaise
  • 2 to 4 tablespoons buttermilk (or regular milk)
  • 1 teaspoon dried dill
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon onion powder
  • ¼ to ½ teaspoon sea salt
  • Freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon chopped chives (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh dill (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together sour cream, mayonnaise, and 2 tablespoons of milk.
  2. Stir in garlic powder, onion powder, dried dill, lemon juice, vinegar, salt, and pepper.
  3. If using, fold in chopped chives and fresh dill.
  4. Adjust thickness with more milk (for dressing) or more mayo (for dip).
  5. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed.
  6. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Use fresh herbs for a more vibrant flavor.
  • Greek yogurt can be substituted for sour cream for a healthier version.
  • Store in an airtight container for up to 5 days.
