Grinch Cookie Magic is a festive and easy holiday cookie recipe made with cake mix, green food coloring, and heart sprinkles, inspired by the classic Christmas story.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 box (15.25 oz) vanilla cake mix (dry mix only)
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • Green food coloring (gel recommended)
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • Red heart sprinkles or red hots candies
  • Green decorating gel or frosting (for decorating)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the dry cake mix, softened butter, eggs, and vegetable oil until well combined.
  3. Add green food coloring a little at a time until desired color is achieved.
  4. In a separate bowl, mix powdered sugar and cornstarch.
  5. Using a cookie scoop or spoon, roll dough into balls and coat each in the powdered sugar mixture.
  6. Place cookies onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them apart.
  7. Bake for 8–10 minutes or until centers are just set. Do not allow cookies to brown.
  8. Let cookies cool on the tray for 2 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  9. Once cooled, place a dot of green gel or frosting on each cookie and press a red heart sprinkle on top.

Notes

  • Chill the dough for 30 minutes if it feels too sticky to handle.
  • Use gel food coloring to prevent thinning the dough.
  • Do not overbake; cookies should stay soft and chewy.
  • Store cookies in an airtight container for up to 4 days.
  • Freeze dough or baked cookies for up to 3 months.
