  • 2 slices soft bread (white or brown)
  • 3 tablespoons milk (or water)
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 lb ground pork
  • 1/2 onion, grated or finely chopped
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 1/4 cups low sodium beef broth
  • 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic (for sauce)
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt (for sauce)
  • 1/4 teaspoon thyme
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper (for sauce)
  • 1 pinch nutmeg

Instructions

  1. Soak the soft bread slices in milk and let sit for a few minutes.
  2. Mix the soaked bread, ground beef, ground pork, onion, eggs, garlic, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper in a large bowl until just combined.
  3. Form into 1 to 1.5-inch meatballs and place on a baking sheet.
  4. Bake at 425°F for 10 minutes or sear in a skillet until browned on the outside.
  5. Whisk together beef broth, cream, cornstarch, Worcestershire sauce, garlic, parsley, salt, thyme, pepper, and nutmeg to make the sauce.
  6. Place meatballs in a 3–4 quart slow cooker and pour sauce over them.
  7. Cook on low for 3–4 hours or high for 2 hours, until meatballs are cooked through and the sauce thickens.
  8. Serve hot over noodles, mashed potatoes, or rice.

  • Use ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version.
  • Swap heavy cream with evaporated milk or coconut cream for dietary needs.
  • Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 4 days.
