Crispy Honey Chicken Bites are sweet, sticky, and crunchy takeout-style chicken pieces made at home with a light batter and flavorful honey garlic sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 lbs boneless chicken thighs or breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 2 egg whites
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 2 tbsp low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/2 tsp chili flakes (optional)
  • 1 tsp cornstarch + 1 tbsp water (slurry)

Instructions

  1. Cut chicken into 1.5-inch bite-sized pieces and pat dry.
  2. In a bowl, mix egg whites, soy sauce, cornstarch, and toss chicken pieces. Let marinate for 10–30 minutes.
  3. Heat oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C).
  4. Mix flour, cornstarch, salt, pepper, and paprika in a separate bowl.
  5. Coat marinated chicken in dry flour mixture and shake off excess.
  6. Fry in small batches for 4–5 minutes or until golden and cooked through. Drain on a wire rack.
  7. In a saucepan, mix honey, soy sauce, rice vinegar, garlic, and chili flakes. Simmer and thicken with cornstarch slurry for 2–3 minutes.
  8. Toss hot fried chicken in the warm sauce and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Use chicken thighs for juicier results; breasts work for leaner bites.
  • Double-fry chicken for extra crispiness if needed.
  • Store sauce and chicken separately to keep bites crispy when reheating.
  • Can be made gluten-free using tamari and GF flour blend.
  • Air fryer version: 375°F for 10–12 minutes with light oil spray.
