Crispy fried mushrooms with a golden, crunchy coating and juicy centers. A classic appetizer that’s easy to make at home and better than restaurant-style versions.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb whole button or baby bella mushrooms
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 1/2 cups breadcrumbs or panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • Vegetable or canola oil, for frying

Instructions

  1. Clean mushrooms with a damp paper towel and pat completely dry.
  2. Set up three bowls: one with flour, one with eggs whisked with milk, and one with breadcrumbs mixed with seasonings.
  3. Coat each mushroom in flour, then dip into the egg mixture, and roll in the seasoned breadcrumbs.
  4. Heat oil in a deep skillet to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Fry mushrooms in small batches until golden brown and crispy, turning as needed.
  6. Remove and drain on a wire rack or paper towels.
  7. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • Do not overcrowd the pan to keep oil temperature steady.
  • Use panko breadcrumbs for extra crunch.
  • Let breaded mushrooms rest a few minutes before frying for better coating.
  • Best served immediately while hot and crispy.
