Ingredients

  • Mushrooms – provide savory flavor and meaty texture
  • Heavy cream – forms the rich, creamy sauce
  • Cheese (mozzarella, cheddar) – adds melty texture and richness
  • Garlic and onion – build the flavor base
  • Butter or olive oil – used to sauté and deepen flavor
  • Eggs – optional binder for structure
  • Herbs (thyme, parsley) – brighten and balance the dish
  • Salt and pepper – essential seasoning
  • Optional protein – adds heartiness (chicken, sausage, tofu)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Sauté mushrooms, onion, and garlic in butter or oil until golden.
  3. Whisk cream, eggs (if using), herbs, and half the cheese in a bowl.
  4. Combine sautéed mixture with cream mixture in a baking dish. Add optional protein.
  5. Top with remaining cheese and bake uncovered for 25–30 minutes.
  6. Let rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • Roast mushrooms first to reduce moisture for a firmer casserole.

  • Add spinach, kale, or riced cauliflower for extra veggies.
  • Top with pork rinds or parmesan for crunch.
  • Great for freezing and reheating.
