This Brown Sugar Glazed Ham recipe delivers the perfect balance of sweet and savory flavors with a sticky, caramelized glaze, ideal for holidays or special gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (8- to 10-pound) bone-in, spiral-cut ham, with no added water or juices
  • 2 cups packed light brown sugar
  • 1 cup honey
  • 1/2 cup Dijon mustard
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 325°F (165°C).
  2. Remove packaging from ham and allow it to sit at room temperature for 30 minutes.
  3. In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in brown sugar, honey, Dijon mustard, and apple cider vinegar. Simmer for 5–7 minutes until thickened.
  4. Place ham on a roasting rack in a large roasting pan. Brush half the glaze over the ham, making sure to get between the slices.
  5. Cover loosely with foil and bake for 1 hour and 45 minutes to 2 hours and 15 minutes, depending on ham size.
  6. Every 30 minutes, baste with additional glaze. During the last 15 minutes, remove the foil and brush on the remaining glaze.
  7. Continue baking uncovered until caramelized and heated to an internal temperature of 140°F.
  8. Remove from oven, rest for 15 minutes, then slice and serve.

Notes

  • Use a roasting pan with a rack and a bit of liquid to prevent ham from drying out.
  • Make glaze ahead and store in fridge up to 3 days.
  • For a tangier flavor, add extra vinegar or substitute with orange juice.
  • This glaze works well on turkey or chicken, too.
