Blueberry Butter is a smooth, velvety fruit spread made by simmering blueberries with sugar, lemon juice, and spices. It’s perfect for breakfast and desserts.

Ingredients

  • Fresh or frozen blueberries – provide the base flavor and natural pectin
  • Granulated sugar – sweetens and helps achieve the correct texture
  • Lemon juice – enhances brightness and preserves color
  • Ground cinnamon – adds warmth and depth
  • Vanilla extract (optional) – rounds out the flavor
  • Pinch of salt – balances the sweetness and enhances overall taste

Instructions

  1. Combine blueberries, sugar, lemon juice, and cinnamon in a saucepan.
  2. Simmer over medium heat, stirring frequently, until the mixture thickens and blueberries burst (20–30 minutes).
  3. Blend the mixture until smooth using an immersion blender or a standard blender.
  4. Optional: Strain through a fine mesh strainer for an ultra-smooth texture.
  5. Return mixture to the saucepan and simmer until desired thickness is reached.
  6. Stir in vanilla extract and a pinch of salt.
  7. Pour into sterilized jars.
  8. Chill for 10 minutes to set before refrigerating or freezing.

Notes

  • Adjust sweetness to taste by using more or less sugar.
  • Simmer slowly to prevent burning and develop deeper flavor.
  • Always chill for 10 minutes to set the spread before using.
  • Frozen blueberries work well if fresh are unavailable.
  • Store in refrigerator for up to 3 weeks or freeze for up to 6 months.
