Old-fashioned Apple Dapple Cake made with fresh apples, pecans, and a rich caramel glaze. Moist, nostalgic, and perfect for holidays or family gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups fresh apples, peeled and chopped
  • 2 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups vegetable oil
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup pecans (or walnuts), chopped
  • 1 cup brown sugar (for glaze)
  • 1/4 cup butter (for glaze)
  • 1/4 cup milk (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a bundt or tube pan.
  2. In a large bowl, mix sugar, oil, eggs, and vanilla until combined.
  3. Sift together flour, salt, and baking soda, then fold into the wet mixture.
  4. Stir in chopped apples and pecans. Batter will be thick.
  5. Pour batter into the prepared pan and bake for 60 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out mostly clean.
  6. While baking, prepare the glaze: combine brown sugar, butter, and milk in a saucepan. Boil for 3 minutes.
  7. Pour the hot glaze over the warm cake immediately after baking.
  8. Let the cake cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • Use firm apples like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp for best results.
  • Do not overmix the batter; stir only until combined.
  • Medium-sized apple chunks work best; avoid cutting them too small.
  • For a spiced version, add 1 teaspoon cinnamon and 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg.
  • Replace half the oil with unsweetened applesauce for a lighter cake.
