This classic Apple Crisp recipe features warm cinnamon-spiced apples baked under a buttery brown sugar oat topping. It’s quick to prepare, perfect for fall, and served best with ice cream or caramel drizzle.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 medium peeled apples, cut into 1-inch chunks (about 10 cups)
  • 1/2 cup packed light or dark brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour (for topping)
  • 3/4 cup packed light or dark brown sugar (for topping)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (for topping)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1 cup old-fashioned whole rolled oats
  • Optional: salted caramel and vanilla ice cream for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (177°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, mix chopped apples with brown sugar, flour, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Spread evenly into the baking dish.
  3. In another bowl, whisk flour, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Cut in the cold butter until crumbly, then stir in oats.
  4. Sprinkle the topping evenly over the apples.
  5. Bake for 45 minutes or until topping is golden and the apple mixture is bubbling at the edges.
  6. Let cool for at least 5 minutes before serving. Enjoy warm, room temp, or cold with optional caramel or ice cream.
